Valentine’s Day holds with it many expectations – flowers, candy, jewelry, romantic dinners. And, for most of us, it falls short. Maybe you don’t have a significant other to share it with. Or maybe you do and it’s a difficult relationship or you are going through a hard time. Or maybe (like in my situation), your significant other doesn’t meet your expectations for what should be done to celebrate the day:) After all, I should be showered with gifts and attention, right? I have a joke with my husband that his florist gets lost every year.
No matter what your situation, remember that God loves you and that is the most important love of all. His love lasts forever. It asks for nothing in return. He loves you just the way you are. After all, God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son. (John 3:16)
Scripture overflows with references to God’s great, enduring and abounding love for us. If you are feeling down this Valentine’s Day and need some encouragement and validation, reflect on these Scriptures.
- I am deeply and completely loved (Romans 8:38-39)
- I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)
- I am holy and dearly loved (Colossians 3:12)
- I am free from condemnation (Romans 8:1)
- I am totally and completely forgiven (1 John 2:12)
- I mean the world to Him (John 3:16)
- He thinks I am beautiful right now (Song of Solomon 4:1)
- When God sees me, He sees the righteousness of Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21)
No Valentine can compete with His love for us!
