“O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.”
Psalm 139:1-3
It is amazing to think that God is always with us – through his Holy Spirit. In my quiet time, I was reading a devotional, Unblinded Faith: Gaining Spiritual Sight Through Believing God’s Word by Elisa Pulliam. She shared part of the verse above and asked the question, “how would it change your relationship with God to settle into the truth that He is always watching over you, whatever you do and wherever you go?”. I reflected on this question and decided to take Jesus with me as a passenger for a few days – wherever I went and whatever I did. As if He isn’t already there! But I tried to be more conscious of his presence.
Buckle up Lord! It’s going to be a wild ride – or maybe I should say mild (rather boring) ride. During this time, I tried to stay mindful of Him throughout the day and even had little discussions with him – silently so that my coworkers didn’t think I was crazier than they already do. He went to work with me. When in a meeting, picturing him there made me think a little more about my behavior (although I don’t usually get out of hand). I should have tried this at my last employer where the meetings generally involved drama and tension😊.
He also exercised with me, walked the dogs, and even got to experience some hot flashes. We watched a little Netflix. I wasn’t sure the show was appropriate, so we switched to reading instead. The experience made me more conscious of Him as I went through my day and gave me a sense of peace and comfort. I think I will consciously “take Him with me” a little more often.
The scriptures below provide a great reminder that he is ever present in our lives.
“The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore”. Psalm 121:8
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
“…and teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
When you are feeling bad about yourself or need some encouragement, remember that God’s spirit is within you.
