If someone asks how you’re doing, it’s likely that you will say “fine”. Chances are that your REAL answer might be something different. Maybe something like – I’m tired. I’m stressed. I’m weary. I’m overwhelmed. If this is the case, what could you do to change your answer?
Here is some “soul care” advice from hot mess😊 And, if it reassures you, also from the Bible.
- Love God – Spend time in God’s word and cultivate your relationship with Him. Quit striving to control and manipulate your life and give it to Him!
- Love (and take care of) yourself – Nourish your body well; incorporate movement into your day; try to get enough sleep; set boundaries on how you spend your time and energy; and do something you enjoy every day. If you don’t love and take care of yourself, you can’t love others well.
- Love others – Foster and enrich your relationships with friends and family. Help and support others. It makes them feel good (and makes you feel good too).
We live in a fallen world where we are sure to have struggles. To weather the storms that will inevitably come our way, we need to be rooted in God’s goodness and steadfast love. Once we have our foundation in Him, we will naturally begin to love ourselves and others more. This doesn’t mean that we will always be able to answer, “fine” to the “how are you really doing?” question. But He will tend to our souls and keep us grounded in His truth.
