This week in the Hot Mess to God’s Best Book Study, we are exploring the narratives that most of us have internalized that guide our thoughts and actions. These are stories that we tell ourselves (usually negative) that can be based on how we grew up, our life experiences, and our culture. What bad news do you tell yourself every day? One that has been pervasive for me is “I am not enough”.
If it’s not this for you, it’s probably something else. I think it’s important to do some soul searching and think about what you are thinking about. Once you are aware of your narratives you can work to overcome them.
For others that struggle with feeling like they aren’t enough, it has helped me to read Scripture that confirms how God sees me. Reflect on these truths when you are feeling less than.
- I am deeply and completely loved (Romans 8:38-39)
- I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)
- I am holy and dearly loved (Colossians 3:12)
- I am free from condemnation (Romans 8:1)
- I am totally and completely forgiven (1 John 2:12)
- I mean the world to Him (John 3:16)
- He thinks I am beautiful right now (Song of Solomon 4:1)
- When God sees me, He sees the righteousness of Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21)
I wrote these down and posted them on my bathroom mirror and it helped!
