NOT TODAY, SATAN!

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings – 1 Peter 8-9

Do you ever feel like Satan is up in your bizness? I sure do and have felt his presence more profoundly since I have been on my writing journey. He becomes especially fierce with those who are actively working against him to spread God’s word.

How does he show up? He tempts and troubles us by putting unhealthy ideas and thoughts in our minds. He preys on our struggles and past hurts. Let’s call this what it is – lies.

Do you ever feel?

  • Guilty for no good reason
  • You aren’t good enough
  • Shame for something that you did
  • Prideful and “judgy” of others
  • Jealous of a friend or coworker
  • Entitled to more in your life
  • Doubtful or lacking in faith
  • Unforgiveness for someone that wronged you

These are just some of the ways that Satan asserts himself in our minds

What is the remedy?

Recognize and reject his lies and replace them with God’s truth by looking for Scripture contrary to that lie. Here are some examples:

  • Guilty for no good reason – Romans 8:1
  • Like you aren’t good enough – Psalm 139:14
  • Shame for something you did – Isaiah 54:4
  • Prideful and “judgy” of others – James 4:6-8
  • Jealous of a friend or coworker – 1 Corinthians 13
  • Entitled to more in your life – 2 Timothy 3:2
  • Doubtful or lacking in faith – Romans 1:20
  • Unforgiveness toward someone that wronged you – Matthew 18:21-22

Easy enough, right? Have I been cured of thoughts that Satan puts in my mind? That would be a big NO, but this practice is definitely helping to get me back on track!

Pray!

Your other weapon is prayer and putting on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) every single day!  See below for the warrior’s prayer by Dr. David Jeremiah.

The Warrior’s Prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Your warrior prepares for battle.

Today I claim victory over Satan by putting on
the whole armor of God!

I put on the Girdle of Truth!
May I stand firm in the truth of Your Word so
I will not be a victim of Satan’s lies.

I put on the Breastplate of Righteousness!
May it guard my heart from evil so I will
remain pure and holy, protected under
the blood of Jesus Christ.

I put on the Shoes of Peace!
May I stand firm in the Good News of the
Gospel so Your peace will shine through me
and be a light to all I encounter.

I take the Shield of Faith!
May I be reader for Satan’s fiery darts of
doubt, denial, and deceit so I will not be
vulnerable to spiritual defeat.

I put on the Helmet of Salvation!
May I keep my mind focused on You so Satan
will not have a stronghold on my thoughts.

I take the Sword of the Spirit!
May the two-edged sword of Your Word
be ready in my hands so I can expose
the tempting words of Satan.

By faith your warrior has
put on the whole armor of God!

I am prepared to live this day in
spiritual victory! Amen.
